Iran: Is This the Next War?

A timely discussion on what could be our next military involvement.   

Speaker: Rudy Simons, a well-known, long time local peace activist, has traveled to Iran and the Middle East  twice in the last 5 years as part of a delegation of "citizen diplomats." He will share his insight into the political mood of Iran and its people. A group discussion will follow his talk. All are welcome to attend.

HW Peace Joins Thousand Marching for Jobs, Justice & Peace in Detroit

HW Peace members were pleased to join thousands of other passionate community members for the recent Jobs, Justice and Peace march on August 28th in Detroit. Commemorating Reverend Martin Luther King's 1963 "Walk to Freedom" and delivery of his "I Have a Dream" speech, the march united local union members, social justice advocates and peace proponents in common cause for strong communities based on good jobs, equal justice and non-violent conflict resolution.

Juan Cole Talk on Afghanistan Conflict -- Informative and Well Attended
Over 270 attendees packed the Royal Oak First United Methodist Church on November 14 to learn more about Afghanistan, the country that has been the epicenter of the United States' fight against terrorism since the events of 9/11. Juan Cole, one of the foremost experts on America's troubled relations with the Islamic world, shed light on the varied ethnic population of Afghanistan and how our eight year occupation has so far succeeded in possibly recruiting more extremists than in securing our nation.
